Court Reporting And Changing Technology

Court reporting is a marketable skill, and court reporters can earn a great living with their skills. You don't need to go to college to be a court reporter, and you can earn a great wage once you get your certification. Technology is beginning to change court reporting methods, and some court reporters are worried that technology is going to make them obsolete. Technology changes quickly and court reporters have to keep up with these technological changes to stay relevant.

Court Reporting

While the technology is changing, court reporting isn't going anywhere. Technology can enhance a court reporting career, not destroy it. Some courts are trying to save money by making a video or audio recordings of court proceedings instead of having an actual court reporter at the meeting. Even though some underfunded courts are turning to this method, they still need court reporters to turn out a finished transcript of the court proceeding.

The tools and technology are inevitably going to change, but this doesn't mean that court reporters are no longer going to be needed. Court reporters are just going to need to learn new technology as it appears and they will have to adapt to the changes that are taking place in the court system.

Going into court reporting is still a good career move, and as long as you are adaptable, you are going to earn a living. You just have to be willing to change and adapt to the new technology. You still need the same education requirements if you are going to go into court reporting and you still need to learn stenography and be able to capture speech at 225 words per minute.

Court reporting is a great career because you can earn a good wage and you have freedom about where you can work. You can go independent and choose your hours, or you can work for someone else as an employee. There are lots of options for employment, and you can write your ticket once you get certified.

There is always going to be a need for court reporters, even though technology is changing quickly. Court reporting is still a good career choice, and it is worth going into. Whether you are in the courtroom or producing transcripts or even working for a broadcasting company on closed captions, there is always going to be a need for your skills.
